We’ve all seen countless amazing pictures of the great wonders of the world – the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty…even works of art like the Mona Lisa hanging in the Louvre.
But when photographer Oliver Curtis visited the Pyramids of Giza one year to capture the great wonders – he actually didn’t take many of the pyramids!
“In the mid-distance, I saw a newly constructed golf course, its fairways and intense green,” he said. “I found this visual sandwich of contrasting color, texture and form intriguing…because of the oddness of my position; standing at one of the great wonders of the world facing the ‘wrong’ way.”
And so his series, Volte-face was born. He began visiting famous landmarks and places all around the world and photographing them in the opposite direction!
You may be surprised at the reality that surrounds these monumental places…
