Forbes recently released a list of the highest paid musicians in 2015. The variety of artists is pretty surprising. You may be amazed by just how much these superstars made, but it’s worth noting that these figures represent gross earnings not net. If you want to know exactly what they walked away with last year, you may need to ask them yourselves.
Measuring artistic success can’t exactly be done by evaluating what a musician makes each year, but it can be a very good indicator of how much the general public enjoys them as an artist. While we might not agree that these are the best musicians in the industry, they sure are running the right business. In the age of Spotify and Apple Music, record sales have plummeted. The real money is in endorsements and touring, and these artists know how to do just that.
1. Katy Perry – $135 million
The world-renowned pop singer Katy Perry found herself at the number one spot as the highest paid musician in 2015. Though it’s rumored she is the inspiration for Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood, Katy Perry out grossing all of her competitors, male and female. With her Prismatic world tour for the latest album Roar, Perry was earning $2 million per city of her tour. Obviously there’s no bad blood between her and her fans, since she’s selling out venues all over the world.
